Clear Aligners
West Linn, OR

Woman using clear aligner in West Linn, OR at Roane Family Dental. For the correction of mild misalignments, our team at Roane Family Dental highly recommends the use of clear aligner trays. When teeth are misaligned a person can experience difficulty when trying to maintain oral hygiene. Some areas around the tooth may become tricky to access when brushing and flossing, increasing the risk of bacteria lingering and promoting tooth decay. A poor bite can also place pressure at certain areas between teeth, on the gums and jawbone. It can also interfere with the actual biting into and chewing of food.

How Clear Aligners Work

This restorative and cosmetic orthodontic solution makes use of a series of trays, or aligners, to slowly and gradually force teeth into their correct position for a perfectly aligned smile. Each tray is worn for about two weeks before our patient is expected to move on to the next one in the sequence. Because each patients' bite is different, the time taken to achieve the desired results can greatly vary. Typically, patients will receive anywhere between 12 and 48 trays. These adjustments are so small and gradually done that you should feel no pain even as you switch from one tray to the next.

The trays are customized following an appointment with our orthodontist, who will map out your dental formula and use this to create the series of aligners. For the best possible results, the aligners should be worn over the teeth for at least 20-22 hours per day. The allowance is so that you can take them out to brush teeth, drink and eat comfortably without food getting trapped in the tray.

After eating and drinking you should thoroughly clean your teeth before putting the aligners back on. For those working away from home, this may necessitate carrying around oral hygiene products. A professional cleaning will also be performed by our dental hygienist just before you begin using the trays.

Benefits of Clear Aligner Treatment

One of the best benefits that clear aligners have over the more traditional braces is invisibility. The trays are made of clear plastic, and most people are unlikely to notice unless they look really closely. This quality makes them a popular choice amongst adults who need bite correction as it saves them feeling embarrassed about undergoing a treatment that is often perceived as being for children.

Without the wires and sharp points that make up traditional braces, clear aligner trays make for a very comfortable experience. You will not have to worry about injuring yourself or getting food stuck in odd places. Because they are removable, you can go about eating and drinking without worrying. Because you will need to brush before returning the trays, this ensures you keep to a regular cleaning schedule that is beneficial to your oral health.

When visiting our dentist, you will not have to spend time getting braces adjusted. Our orthodontist will check on progress and oral health every 6 weeks, making it a time-saving option. Ultimately, the best benefit is achieving that straightened smile that you can be confident about flashing whenever you want.

If you believe you have a crooked bite that needs correcting, do come in to see our team of professionals for an assessment. We will advise you on whether clear aligners are the best option for your case. Call us, Roane Family Dental at (503) 657-1215 today.

I adore Dr. Roane and his staff.

"I have been a patient here for 10 years, since he started this practice. He has fixed my chipped front teeth twice, most recently this week. He is truly an artist and such a nice guy! My teeth look natural and healthy again. As always, the procedure was painless, quick, and professional. The office is clean, the front office is efficient, and everyone is friendly.

Dr. Roane even opened the clinic on New Year's Day a few years ago to treat my daughter's dry socket after she had her wisdom teeth pulled. I will always be grateful for that, and will remain a loyal patient here even though I moved to Tigard 2 years ago."
